Summer Training Institute (STI) 2005
The Faculty Development Center (FDC) is pleased to announce the
availability of the annual Summer Training Institute (STI) grant
for 2005. This year’s STI is being expanded to incorporate
technology into research and writing as well as teaching.
The FDC is offering faculty comprehensive training to advance their
knowledge of technology by integrating it into their teaching and
research by using Blackboard, End Note, Camtasia, PowerPoint, Word,
Google, Zoomerang and Snag It. Grants of $1000.00 are available
to all full-time tenure and tenure track faculty. Grant recipients
will receive their stipend shortly after completing the two-day
hands-on training workshop at the FDC.
During the intensive training on Wednesday, June 8th and Thursday,
June 9th, participants will learn how to create, maintain and actively
use the aforementioned multimedia and research technologies and
will apply them to a discipline-specific project.
Objectives
Participants will:
- Create an effective PowerPoint Presentation
- Use Camtasia to create a multimedia project
- Use Blackboard to integrate presentations with other components.
STI workshops are designed to encourage creativity and productivity
and provide participants with support and guidance in developing
a useful faculty product.
- Participants will learn a number of multimedia options and
incorporate them into their own projects. For example, faculty
could choose to add multimedia in Blackboard or PowerPoint, or
incorporate items captured using Snag It. The goal of the Institute
is to encourage faculty to develop a project that will increase
student-learning outcomes and/or research productivity.
- Many training sessions will focus on demonstration and practice
tailored to the introduction of a new technology tool.
- Participants are encouraged to bring and utilize their own
materials.
Requirements
Participants must have previously used Blackboard and PowerPoint
for course instruction to be eligible for the STI.
How do I apply?
Application submission period is now over, grant recipients will
be notified by May 16th, 2005.
Note: Successful completion
requires attendance and participation in the full two day workshop
and training session.
